The Second Layer of Glass, Finishing

Top layer of glass is 18 panes of clear textured glass. The panes are glazed with 3/8" flat H lead came to give the effect of mullions in a window. This top layer is then soldered and reinforced with the black cement and cleaned with whiting.

The layer of grapes and vines is then fitted inside the perimeter came of the top layer of window glass and soldered securely together. The weight of the two layers is considerable, but the wider came and the cement will give more than enough support.

Here the top layer is the grapes and vines. During installation, the window glass will be the top layer facing the viewer.

The grapevine is carefully fitted within the window panel before soldering When soldering is completed, the entire panel will be washed and then ready for installation.
